Purpose

One of the blessings of the last week for me (the last TWO weeks for Papa) is that we awoke each day with absolutely no doubt as to what our purpose was for the day. It was singularly and solely to help our pixie troll. Everything we did, from eating our breakfast to falling into bed at the end of the day has been about that single purpose.

From time to time, our dear family members have had that as their single purpose as well. Our little elder is still with us. Her bodily systems are still functioning, except for the heart that is not working properly, but she is now on 24 hour morphine and sedative comfort care, while her body continues its orderly shut-down prior to death.

We have driven home for a necessary rest, leaving her care in the hands of her professional caregivers and her Portland family. In one or two days we will reassess whether she needs our presence again. That is my estimation of how soon we could physically be able to get back on the job, since we are both very exhausted.

We have been to the university of hospice (again, for me). We have had to be persistent and strident advocates for five entire days to get the proper care in place. It should have happened on Tuesday, but did not, and the bureaucratic obstacles have been almost unthinkable, but we arrived at completion today, hence our trip home.

God gave us the necessary strength to fulfill our purposes each day. I don't think anyone can ask for more. Tonight, everyone in our tiny village is resting. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
