Lunchtime conversation with grandsons (grades 3 and 4)
Creigh and Joey: "What's the MOST nutritious food in the world?"Grandma: "Probably eggs, because they contain all the nutrition it takes to grow a tiny cell into a complete chicken."
C&J: "What's the NEXT most nutritious food?"
G: "Probably milk."
C: "Milk? Why?"
G. "It is the food that the baby cow eats in order to grow up into a big animal."
C: "Do they get it out of machines?"
G: "No, it comes from the cow's udder (explanation of the udder)."
C: (Look of sincere horror, followed by great need for reassurance), "They probably do something to it to keep all that junk and stuff from the barn from getting into it, right?" (another look of horror; looks at his glass of milk).
G: "Absolutely." (Discussion of milking machines, mammary production without a calf present, etc.)
